ABSTRACT:

                A patent is a statutory right for an invention granted for a limited period to the patentee by the Government in exchange of full disclosure of his invention for excluding others, from making, using, selling, importing the patented product or process for producing that product for those purposes without his consent. In India patent is governed by the Patent Act, 1970 which was enacted by the Parliament in order to encourage inventions by protecting the interest of the inventor. The nodal department which oversee the patent related matters is the Department of commerce and industrial policy. Key Words: Patent, statutory rights, invention, parliament, industrial policy.
